About

Straightforward advice from someone who does this every day.

JP Donelon, Personal Insolvency Practitioner — helping Irish households find a legal way through unmanageable debt since 2018.

Meet JP Donelon

Practical experience. Statutory authority.

JP Donelon is a Personal Insolvency Practitioner authorised by the Insolvency Service of Ireland (ISI Authorisation Number: PG00307). Since 2018, he has helped hundreds of individuals and families across the Republic of Ireland restructure debt they could no longer afford — most often while keeping them in their homes.

Operating on a nationwide basis, JP works with clients across every county in Ireland, offering an initial consultation free of charge.

His approach is straightforward: understand the client's situation in full, explain the options in language that makes sense, and — when a formal arrangement is the right course — handle the entire process on the client's behalf, from creditor negotiations to court filings to the six-year supervision that follows.

"Most people come to me convinced they're out of options. They're almost never right."

How I work with clients

A step-by-step, no-surprises process.

A free 30-minute consultation

No documents needed. You describe your situation in your own words. I ask enough to understand it. By the end of the call, you'll have a much clearer picture of what the law allows in your specific case.

A written summary of your options

If it helps, I'll follow up with a plain-English summary of what we discussed and what the potential routes forward look like. No obligation attached.

You take whatever time you need

Most people sit with it for a few days. Some come back within a week. Some come back six months later, when they're ready. All of that is fine.

If you choose to proceed, I handle it

From the initial financial disclosure through creditor negotiations, court filings, and the years of supervision that follow — that's my job. Yours is to focus on the rest of your life.

Why regulation matters

Anyone can call themselves a "debt advisor". Only a PIP is state-authorised.

Anyone in Ireland can put "debt advisor" on a business card. Only a small number of professionals — Personal Insolvency Practitioners — are state-authorised to actually enter into formal insolvency arrangements on behalf of a client.

Working with a PIP means:

  • You are protected by statutory professional standards
  • Your arrangement is filed with, and supervised by, the Insolvency Service of Ireland
  • The fees are largely paid by creditors, not by you
  • There is legal accountability if something goes wrong

MABS — the Money Advice and Budgeting Service — is the state's free advice body and an excellent first port of call for straightforward situations. For anything involving mortgage arrears, secured debt, or arrangements requiring court approval, a PIP is the right professional to speak to.

Ready when you are
